Kröst, Reykjavik

The Place

Kröst, Reykjavik is one of ten food outlets based in the relatively new Hlemmur Food Hall. Making excellent use of an old Reykjavik bus station, this cool little market features cuisines from around the world.

Calling itself a grill and wine bar, Kröst, Reykjavik serves up some seriously exciting scran. Make your order at the kitchen, grab a glass of prosecco and soak up the lively atmosphere while you wait for that tasty food to arrive.

The Neighbourhood

Kröst, Reykjavik is just around the corner from the Icelandic Penis museum (yes, really). It’s about ten minutes’ walk from the city’s famous church and around 20 minutes from the centre and the 101 Hotel (read my 101 Hotel review here).

ROK is another great restaurant within easy stomping distance. And there’s an amazing Brauð & Co bakery in the food hall itself.

A Good Shout for…

Amazing grilled food and a glass or two at lunch or dinner.

The Best Bits

  • Enjoying the buzzy atmosphere of the food hall. A mixed crowd of international tourists and locals pack it out all day, every day.
  • A stunningly delicious North Atlantic cod. One of the best things I’ve ever eaten. I still don’t know what kind of magic they worked on that thing.
  • How committed these guys are to the grill. There’s grilled meat and fish, of course. But the Kröst, Reykjavik menu also features grilled white mould cheese, grilled cabbage and grilled cauliflower with a soya glaze. Yum!
