The Place

Marqt is a supermarket with a number of locations across Amsterdam. But it’s no ordinary grocery shop. This place has a completely transparent supply chain and provides a great range of ethical, sustainable and organic foodie delights.

I often shop here when I’m staying in an aparthotel around the corner, rubbing shoulders with woke locals and AirBnB-ers, all on the hunt for quality food and drink.

The Neighbourhood

Marqt Amsterdam is located within the central, got-it-all-going-on, Nine Streets district. It’s close to the Pulitzer and Soho House.

And, if you’d rather dodge the self-catering malarkey, it’s right by a whole host of excellent eateries including Pancakes, Kessens, Goodies and The Avocado Show.

A Good Shout for…

Sustainable and responsibly sourced supermarket food and drink.

The Best Bits

  • Marqt Amsterdam is beautifully designed and lit – not something I ever thought I’d say about a supermarket – and offers a really pleasant shopping experience.
  • Everything on the shelves at Marqt Amsterdam comes from a sustainable or ethical source. Most of it is organic. And it’s a veggie-vegan dream. Perfect if you want transparent info on what’s in the food you’re eating and how it’s actually making its way to your table.
  • All the produce looks so good. I’ve made the mistake of going here hungry and maxing out the plastic on cheese, wine and sweet treats. Be careful in there kids.
