One Eleven Bali = Heaven

why is this place so good? read on.

In 2018 I stayed at One Eleven twice. That speak volumes about this hotel. For me, this place has everything that I could dream of for a stay in Bali. First of all, this place isn’t just a hotel. It’s far more than that. It’s a resort, consisting of nine gorgeous villas and a rooftop penthouse. There’s an amazing sushi restaurant and your very own spa. Let’s get into the nitty gritty.

Why did you choose One Eleven to stay at in Bali?

It was down to persistent research – that took a while, as Bali has many amazing places to stay. This was my first visit to Bali, so I took my time to make sure I’d get the best place for my needs. The big selling point for me was the fact that it’s for adults only, in the middle of Seminyak, and overall it looked like a kind of private sanctuary.

What was the location like?

Brilliant! Anything and everything that I needed was in walking distance. Convenience stores, pharmacy, restaurants, bars, the beach – all just a few steps away. Here’s a screengrab of a map to prove my point;

Walking distance from the well known Potato Head Beach Club and Seminyak Village.

What were your first impressions?

Wow, Wow and Wow! Exactly how it was described on the online travel agents’ websites. It’s so rare that you turn up at a place and everything is exactly as it was shown in the pictures. Well, this time, it was all there! The level of professionalism, politeness and kindness shown by the staff is incredible. And I’m not talking about the after-a-while almost irritating style of “yes Sir” servant-type behaviour. Just people treating each other and their guests with care and respect every day. Oh, and smiling. They are always smiling. What a wonderful quality! Not to mention that the General Manager came down from her office to personally say hello. Did I mention that One Eleven collected me from the airport? The driver was there on time, with my name correctly spelled on his sign J. Sharply dressed, spoke perfect English, was driving a very clean and air-conditioned SUV and had chilled water bottles waiting for me on the back seat. I can already hear you asking me how much the pick-up cost. Well, it was free – it was included in the room rate.

What was the reception like?

The reception consists of a waiting area and the reception desk. On arrival they immediately offered me a delicious “welcome drink” made of fresh local fruit, and while everything got sorted I was soon on my second juice J Reception has a WiFi connection and was very clean – decorated with beautiful fresh flowers.

What was your villa like?

Before I say a word just have a look at the next few pictures.

The villa is surrounded by a private garden and a stunning swimming pool. The kitchen/living area is part open plan and part open air. Now, of course there’s a roof and two walls, but it’s open on two sides, one side facing the garden and the pool.

The kitchen has everything you need, and in the unlikely event it doesn’t, just call reception and they’ll take care of it. The main thing is the big fridge. Filled with cold drinks (alcoholic as well as soft drinks, but of course you’re more than welcome to store your own drinks and food in there).

I nearly forgot! Did I mention the Spa? No, I don’t mean the usual spas where you go to get “treated”, but a spa that’s situated within the gardens of your villa. Yes, you heard that right. You have your own spa gazebo on site. You book the treatment and they come to you. I’m not lying, and due to the quality of the service and the rather favourable prices I booked treatments for five consecutive days. It was heaven!

Did you eat there? What was the food like?

I did eat almost every day at the villa, as breakfast is included in the room price. You call reception and tell them the time you’d like your breakfast. In the morning a couple of people show up at your gate and they bring all the ingredients, prepare your breakfast freshly on the spot and set your table.

I had plenty of lunches and dinners too and not once was I dissatisfied with the food. I think the quality and the quantity are spot on.

If you don’t feel like leaving the resort, but you don’t want to eat in your villa, they have an amazing sushi restaurant right above reception called Shiro. Shiro is amongst the top three sushi places in Bali and it’s a fully-fledged sushi and sake bar. And before you ask where the name comes from, you’ll find out when, on your arrival, Chef Shiro-San welcomes you with a loud ‘KONBAN WA’. And like I said earlier, if the food at the resort isn’t enough or you just get bored eating the same thing, there are tons of restaurants in walking distance or a 10min drive away.

What did you like about it?

Everything! The level of service. The politeness and kindness of the staff. The fact that you had a designated driver on demand to take you anywhere in Seminyak. The place is so quiet and private, but at the same time you’re right in the middle of Seminyak. It really is the best of both worlds. In the living room area there’s a wireless speaker so you can stream your own music all day long. They really have thought of everything here.

Was there anything you disliked?

Yes, checking out and going home! That part I really disliked…
