The Place

B.A.R. is not a bar. Instead, the acronym stands for Blasieholmens Akvarium O Restaurang. So – sticking with the shortened version – B.A.R. is a stylish, family-run restaurant and a seafood lover’s heaven.

The Neighbourhood

Tucked away on a quiet but central Stockholm backroad. Right by the famous Grand Hotel and Lydmar Hotel. Five minutes’ walk from Gamla Stan and the Palace. And around the corner from one of my Stockholm favourites, the Kavalleriet Café.

A Good Shout for…

A dinner of oysters and the freshest of fresh fish. All washed down with the perfect white.

The Best Bits

  • It’s a venue that wears a number of different hats with style. Restaurant bar. Mini fish market. High-end takeaway. I loved watching the B.A.R. team pull it all off to perfection.
  • The seasonal menu. B.A.R. prides itself on serving up fresh, local produce. Which feeds into another B.A.R. belief – that high quality food should be as affordable as possible.
  • The mind-blowingly knowledgeable and friendly staff. As you tend to find everywhere in Stockholm, everyone has embarrassingly good English. And up at the fish counter, the guys can tell you all about the available fish, cooking methods and which wine pairing will work best. Which makes for a pretty amazing culinary experience.
