The Place

Chill Japanese restaurant specialising in steamed gua bao buns and other Japanese food. There’s obvs a well-stocked bar too.

The guys behind this place are also responsible for Bone Daddies, another amazing Japanese restaurant chain in London. If you’ve tried that and liked it, you’ll love this.

The Neighbourhood

Two minutes’ from Berners Tavern and close to Shaftesbury Av theatres. A short hop from Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Circus tube stations. (There’s also a Flesh & Buns in Soho if you find yourself over that way.)

A Good Shout for…

A mid-shop-spree lunch or a pre-theatre dinner of tasty Japanese sharing plates. And a few drinks of course.

The Best Bits

  • The Japanese interior – kinda traditional with a modern twist. Minimalist and natural with lots of wood, some comfortable booths and a cool, sake-filled bar.
  • The menu, which contains too many Asian delights to try in one sitting. Take your pick from bao, sushi, yakitori, tempura, fried squid and sticky pork ribs. Delicious!
  • Knowing you’re dining with the guys who did it first. Flesh & Buns started the trend for bao bun restaurants in London. And they still do it better than anyone else.
