The Place

I’ve been dropping by Kessens Amsterdam for many years now. It’s a little laid back restaurant serving a breakfast and lunch menu (alongside great wine and classic cocktails) in the Nine Streets District.

With a no frills, chilled out kinda vibe, it tendsto attract the locals. And I love feeling like one of the locals myself as Irock up for a tasty sandwich and a glass of red.

The Neighbourhood

Kessens Amsterdam is located within the Nine Streets district in central Amsterdam. It’s right by the canals and within easy reach of both the Pulitzer and Soho House. Pancakes and Goodies, some more of my Amsterdam faves, are also close by.

A Good Shout for…

A laidback lunch with the locals.

The Best Bits

  • The fact that it’s a local haunt. There’s a big communal table by the kitchen where I’ve sat on many an occasion and had an Amsterdam resident strike up a friendly conversation.
  • The food. One owner of Kessen Amsterdam is Swedish, the other is Dutch. And the cuisine reflects this. You can expect to find homemade soups, salads, steak and gravad lax on the menu. I have tried my fair share of dishes and can vouch for their deliciousness.
  • Enjoying a late afternoon glass of wine on the outdoor terrace and doing some top notch people watching. Good time vibes to the max.
