The Place

MIMA is a contemporary art gallery. And it’s one of my favourite places to visit in Brussels. Think of it as a mini Tate Modern. Brutalist architecture (MIMA is based in a disused brewery). And some incredible modern art.

It’s open from Wednesday to Sunday and admission is reasonable.

The Neighbourhood

Beside the canal in the Molenbeek district. This old industrial neighbourhood is 20 minutes’ walk from Grand Place and off the standard tourist trek. Always a good thing in my opinion.

A Good Shout for…

Getting your fill of some of the edgiest, most up-to-date modern art around.

The Best Bits

  • Amazing and eclectic exhibitions. I happened to stumble upon a couple that were super Insta-friendly, which you can imagine made this old Hungarian very happy.
  • The café with outdoor space. Perf for grabbing a snack and a cold drink on a hot day.
  • The view of Brussels from up on the rooftop terrace.
