The Place

Pizza East Portobello is my favourite pizza restaurant. This trendy eatery sits in a converted pub (one that I used to frequent 30 odd years ago as it happens).

If you know London, the resto name might seem like a bit of a contradiction. Portobello is actually located in West London.

But that’s because the first version of Pizza East can be found in East London, close to Shoreditch High Street tube station and the Shoreditch House. Which is part of the Soho House empire. Who also happen to own – wait for it – Pizza East.

And when it came to providing West London with the wonder that is Pizza East, the guys plumped for the perfect location, right at the top of Portobello Road.

It’s a popular gaff, especially on weekends, so book ahead if you want to be sure of a table.

The Neighbourhood

Pizza East Portobello’s closest tube station is Ladbroke Grove. But if you really want to get to know the area (and I highly recommend you do) then head to Notting Hill Gate station instead.

From here it’s a 30 minute walk along Portobello Road to Pizza East Portobello but you get to see what makes this neighbourhood special. Antique shops, pastel painted houses and some of the most photogenic shop fronts to ever grace the ‘gram.

A relaxed but stylish pizza feast with family or friends.

The Best Bits

  • If pizza is your thing, this is your place. Pizza East serves up other tasty Italian stuff. But I’ll be honest. I’ve only ever tried the pizza. And I can really vouch for it. It’s amazing!
  • Two pizza ovens sit flaming away in the room downstairs. You can grab a spot at the bar right by the ovens to watch dough being made and pizzas being cooked.
  • Pizza East sits at the top end of Portobello Road and its famous market. I love heading to the market mid-morning, taking a stroll around the shops and the stalls. And then ending up at Pizza East for lunch. A day well spent.
