The Place

Rum Baba Amsterdam is a cosy, happy coffee shop a little way off the beaten track. These friendly guys have their own roastery and bakery a few doors down so you can expect artisan coffee and cakes, all prepared with pride and all totally delish.

Eat in or takeaway. And pick up a few bits from the Rum Baba shop. They have their own range of merch, including some cool beanies. But perhaps more importantly, you can also buy Rum Baba coffee beans and take your fave flavour home.

The Neighbourhood

Rum Baba is located in Amsterdam-Oost, a little way south east from the city centre and off the usual tourist trail. It’s close to the Oostpoort metro station and not far from pretty Oosterpark too.

A Good Shout for…

Breakfast, lunch or a quick caffeine fix.

The Best Bits

  • The design. Rum Baba Amsterdam has a colourful interior with mismatched furniture and 80s New Wave vibes.
  • The baked goods. American style cakes, pies and cookies are baked freshly every day. There are also some savoury brekkie and lunchtime options if you don’t have a sweet tooth.
  • The coffee. Last, but by no means, least, Rum Baba Amsterdam serves some of the best coffee in the city. I had a roast from El Salvador – rich, creamy and delicious. The guys behind this café select beans direct from farms to ensure a fair and sustainable supply chain so you know you’re getting the good stuff.

Rum Baba was one of my favourite finds in Amsterdam. To see more, head to the I Was Here page. Here you’ll discover a roundup of the best restaurants, cafés and culture spots in town, all tried and tested by yours truly.
