The Place

Where do I start with this place? Út í Bláinn Bistro & Café is part of Perlan, an iconic Reykjavik museum.

Perlan is a great place to learn about Iceland’s geology and wildlife and generally have your mind blown by the country's natural wonders.

There’s a real life ice cave. And a planetarium where you can get a glimpse of the northern lights.  

However, if hunger is calling the shots, you can head straight up to the fifth floor. During the day there’s a café serving snacks and drinks. And during the evening there’s a fully-fledged restaurant.

But that makes it all sound too ordinary. And this place is anything but.

The revolving (yes, revolving) café and restaurant sit in a beautiful glass dome, on top of the huge dome that houses the museum exhibitions. Still with me?

Needless to say, the 360 views are incredible. The ambience is superb. And the food is something to get excited about too. This place should be on everyone’s Reykjavik wish list.

The Neighbourhood

Perlan and Út í Bláinn Bistro & Café are little way out of Reykjavik centre.

They’re just 15 minutes’ walk from Hallgrímskirkja church. But far enough away from the tourist drag to feel like you’re discovering something pretty special.

So many things! Learning about Iceland. The best view in Reykjavik. An unforgettable dining experience.  

The Best Bits

• The tasty Icelandic cuisine. As a pescetarian I was in heaven. I opted for the fish set menu and wasn’t disappointed.
  
• The exceptional service. Everyone was super friendly and wonderfully knowledgeable about the food, the building and the city. I picked up some top Reykjavik tips.  
  
• The café sits on one side of the glass dome, the restaurant on the other. As the sun goes down the restaurant revolves to face it so you can enjoy the sunset in all its glory. It was breathtaking.    
  
• The view is probably the best you'll find in Reykjavik. During the day, its the city and that beautiful white church. In the evening, it’s the night sky and a chance to see the northern lights for real.
