BA London to New York Business Class Review

This is my review of British Airways business class (club world), flying on a Boeing 747- 400 from London to New York.

I’ve taken this route a few times before, but regardless, I always look forward to a flatbed flight to NYC. I paid for this flight with an AMEX 2-4-1 voucher that cost 110k airmiles and £520 tax. The return leg was from Miami to London Heathrow.

Are British Airways business class seats the best products out there?

No, and I’m also aware of the Qatar Q suites, Emirates and Singapore Airlines high-end business seats, but there is something that BA has that no other line does. The fact that they are quintessentially British. Look I could write about this for pages and pages and I’m pretty sure I will at some stage. British Airways has high standards, but it’s also quirky and cheeky. Travelling with them is more of a personal experience overall and it can turn into “Faulty Towers” every now and then, but somehow it doesn’t matter. A great example of what I mean by the above could be easily demonstrated by the latest version of the BA safety videos. Click here to watch it.

British Airways Boeing 747- 400

The Boeing 747-400 is a wide body, four-engine jet manufactured by Boeing. BA is the world’s largest operator of the Boeing 747. Passenger capacity is up to 345 in the 4 class layout.B

The seats

This is aisle 13D on the lower deck of the 2-4-2 configuration.

This is 13E and 13F in the middle.

My favourite seat is actually the window seats. You get more privacy, more storage compartments and a window. The only issue is that you have to jump over the legs of the aisle seat passenger if he/she has turned their seat into a flatbed. Not the end of the world, but when it’s dark and you’ve been sleeping and you need to go to the washroom, it’s hard not to fall or kick the sleeping passenger in the process.

New BA Club World amenity kit and bedding

Club world has new amenity kits and bedding supplied by The White Company across all long-haul routes. The bedding is vastly better than before. A single blanket has been replaced with a separate mattress, blanket and duvet. All three are left bagged together on your seat before boarding. The larger pillow in particular makes for a much more comfortable flight, both when seated and sleeping. Even on a day flight, it makes a huge difference.

New BA Club World catering

Club World revolves around freedom, so when it comes to dining, you can choose from a carefully created menu featuring a range of exquisite dishes. BA uses two caterers at Heathrow for long-haul flights. Do & Co for New York JFK and Gate Gourmet for the remaining routes. British Airways have been putting in a lot of effort over the past years to provide an even more diverse catering service. Their three-course-menu is inspired by the latest global trends with a glass of expertly sourced wine.

As it was a daytime flight, I’ve kept things simple. A very tasty potato soup, king prawn curry and a cheese board. I can’t believe it myself, but I even skipped the dessert! 🙂

BA Club World entertainment system

I love the new screen. The resolution is so much better compared to the old one. Not to mention its bigger size and it’s so much more responsive when you are tapping the screen. Finally at also features a more solid tilting mechanism. It was a much needed update.

Look, as I mentioned above, BA isn’t the very best business class out there but I still very much like it. Maybe because I’m part British (part Hungarian) it makes me feel like I’m home.
